An 11-year-old boy tragically lost his life in a tragic school accident, and four children were seriously injured after a car crashed into Auburn South Primary School in Melbourne.
A car struck Auburn South Primary School in Hawthorn East on Tuesday afternoon, causing a sad tragedy in Melbourne’s inner east that left an 11-year-old boy dead and four other children critically injured. Shortly after 2:30 p.m., the incident occurred, and emergency personnel promptly responded to the scene. Two 11-year-old girls, a 10-year-old girl, and a 10-year-old boy were among the injured youngsters who were transported to the hospital with severe but non-life-threatening injuries.
The 40-year-old mother who was driving had arrived to pick up a child from school. She tried a U-turn but lost control, crashed through a fence, and struck a table with multiple kids sitting at it, according to police reports. Thankfully, neither the driver nor her own child were hurt. Although there are presently no accusations against her, she has been placed under arrest and is being questioned.
Inspector Craig McEvoy of the Victoria Police Department conveyed the common sorrow and challenges endured by the families, medical personnel, and school community. Recognizing that occurrences involving young children can be especially difficult, he called the horrific event “every parent’s worst nightmare.”
Ben Carroll, Victoria’s Minister of Education, said he is keeping a close eye on the issue and offered his condolences and assistance to the impacted family and school. The tight-knit community is still in disarray, with parents racing to the school to see how their kids are doing and offer support to one another during this trying time.
