Brett Andrew Button’s -Hunter Valley Bus Crash Driver faces sentencing
Brett Andrew Button’s sentencing hearing in Newcastle District Court is undergoing emotional testimony from survivors and families of the tragic Hunter Valley bus crash, which left 10 people dead and 25 others injured.

The sentencing hearing for Brett Andrew Button, the driver involved in the tragic Hunter Valley bus crash, has begun at Newcastle District Court. Button faces emotional and powerful victim impact statements from survivors and the families of the 10 victims who lost their lives.

The tragic accident in June 2023 left 25 others injured, casting a long shadow over the community.

Now presenting a picture of the great loss they have endured, family members are sharing their sadness and anguish in court. One of the victims’ brothers, Lachlan Mullen, personally confronted Button, clearly expressing his great grief and resentment.

Another family member, Matthew Mullen, thought back on the bright futures that were cut short—that of his daughter Rebecca and her developing medical career. Other families are also suffering; they have been unable to resume their regular lives because of mental stress and anxiety of driving once again. Set to span three days, the hearing is extremely intense and scheduled to include up to sixty victim impact testimonies presented before the court.
