There is a continent hidden under the Antarctic ice cap. Hundreds of lakes on this continent were discovered using ground-penetrating radar. These lakes do not freeze due to the pressure produced by the ice. They are liquid and contain fresh water that has been isolated for at least 15 million years.
The largest of these is Lake Vostok, which is surrounded by a two-mile-thick glacier. The Russian research station Vostok is located on the ice. It took the Soviets five years to build a vertical tunnel in the ice through which a custom elevator designed to hold a single man was built.
The elliptical drill finally reached the eastern shore of the lake in 2012. One man at a time, an eight-man team was lowered to the original surface of the mainland. Until a Russian scientist defected to the West, what happened next was a closely guarded official secret.
Dr. Anton Padalka was a member of the Soviet research team. He defected after realizing that his country had military intentions for a discovery of Antarctica.
Dr. Padalka was granted sanctuary in Switzerland after revealing the existence of a life form peculiar to Lake Vostok… a strange and terrible monster known as Organism 46-B. On the first day of the expedition, the monster was found during a scuba dive that required low-temperature wetsuits.
Organism 46b is a type of huge octopus, although it has 14 arms instead of eight. It resembles its closest known relative, the glass octopus “vitreledonella richardi”.
But the 46b has one advantage over its little brother. Because its venom is in the sac normally used to discharge the ink, it can paralyze from a distance of 150 feet. The radio operator, expedition member Alexis Vindogradov, was sent this way and the radio was lost.
46-B, like the Indo-Pacific Mimic Octopus, possesses exceptional camouflage abilities. The Mimic physically transforms into one of fifteen different aquatic animals, such as a lionfish, sea serpent, or jellyfish. Again, organism 46-B extends this ability.
Dr. Padalka saw the thing, which resembled a human diver. They mistook him for a member of the team swimming towards them. The scientist closest to the beast, a marine biologist, became the second researcher to perish when the organism reformed and tore him to pieces.
At this time, the head of the expedition, A.M. Yelagin opted to trap the organism in a sample tank. Dr. Marta Kalashnik, the only female member of the team, was chosen to attract 46b not because she was attractive, but because, as a former professional athlete, she was considered to be better equipped to defend herself.
Although the trap worked, one of the sea creature’s limbs threatened her. Kalashnik was forced to defend herself with her axe.
When the man-eater surfaced, Soviet security immediately confiscated it, according to Dr. Padalka. Nothing was discovered, according to the international press. The entrance to the hole was sealed. Russian President Vladimir Putin now aims to weaponize the poison of the prehistoric beast.
