Scotland recorded 47 UFO sightings during 2021

Figures released by a British U̳F̳O̳ research organization have revealed an increase on previous years.

Being home to the Loch Ness Monster, Scotland is certainly no stranger to the unexplained, however its penchant for mystery doesn\’t end there – according to Ufologist Ash Ellis, the country saw a total of 47 U̳F̳O̳ sightings during 2021, an increase of 9 on the previous year.

Lanarkshire turned out to be home to the most sightings for the second year running, with 19 reports.

To build up the list, Ellis and colleagues examined reports submitted to MU̳F̳O̳N (Mutual U̳F̳O̳ Network), BU̳F̳O̳RA (British U̳F̳O̳ Network) and NU̳F̳O̳RC (National U̳F̳O̳ R̳e̳p̳o̳r̳t̳i̳n̳g̳ Center).

There were even four sightings reported directly to the police.

Among the reports were references to a “long slim golden object” seen over Fort William, a circular object pursed by fighter jets over Moray and a spherical object sighted over Cumbernauld.

“Sightings in Scotland in 2021 increased by over a third from 2020 (34 to 47),” said Ellis.

“There is some indication of an overall increase in sightings during the pandemic.”

“This could be because historically, at times of stress, we tend to look for answers in places that we might not have looked before and there is a theory that what happens above us mirrors what is happening on the ground.”
